I am so glad that you are here, giving me an opportunity to share some “talk story” with you.
Life is not always easy – that seems to be part of the “human condition” – having to go through those hard times we all sometimes find ourselves in as well as the easy. It is important, especially at those times, to remember that we are not alone – that we are all fellow travelers on this journey of life - each in our own way. It is through sharing our stories that we remember this. When we do; instead of separation, we realize our commonality. In our commonality, a stronger sense of community is experienced, giving us the strength and support we need. That commonality is love. When we open to the love in our hearts, then we know that we are okay and perfect in who we are. We can love ourselves and know that this is just another one of those “wonderful opportunities” that is giving us the opportunity to remember that we are “spiritual beings having a human experience”. We can love each other and have the strength and perseverance to know that everything around us is perfect and will fall into place.
My music is called Positive Music, covering a range of different song styles with this same message in each of the songs. It is to help all of us to create that deeper sense of community within community – for each of us individually with ourselves and with each other.
My CD, Ulana, the Way of the Heart , is a woven tapestry of songs and chants from several ancient cultures as well as several modern original songs. For thousands of years, these ancient traditions have used story, song and movement to enable us to better understand our lives. They touch us in a way that reconnects us and deepens our understanding of ourselves and the many different journeys that we experience throughout our lives. They inspire us, elevating us from our present state.
The songs in the CD include: “Healin' Comes” , an original by Shawn Gallaway that helps us to remember that magic happens when we all come from the heart; Terina , a simple yet deeply expressive Maori song about family; the haunting Celtic chant, “Tha Mis A 'Cur, from the Ceile De tradition about connecting to the Christ Consciousness within each of us; and the moving and inspiring Hawaiian version of “Amazing Grace”. All of these together guide the listener on a musical odyssey to remember that we are all one family, one people - no matter what country, culture or background we originate from - and that we are all looking for the same thing - to love and be loved.
Ulana was created during a very bad breakup of a relationship I had been in—one of my very “dark nights of the soul”, and the making of it was what gave me the strength and perseverance to find my way through it and back to my heart. I am now told that it is especially comforting and uplifting for other women.
When we open to the love in our hearts, magic truly does happen.
