Hawaiian Storytelling
Educational Theater Performance

THROUGH HULA, SONG & TALK STORY

EXCITING SCHOOL & LIBRARY PERFORMANCES & PRESENTATIONS FOR CHILDREN

Children can experience the warm sun of Hawai’i and its rich and beautiful culture as it has been passed down from ancient to modern times.  It is shared through the Hawaiian ancient gift for storytelling, the traditional Hawaiian Hula, and their mele (songs), to paint pictures of a culture that is all about community and caring for each other.

This ancient form of storytelling is the living history of the Hawaiian people, telling their myths and legends, stories and values through songs, chants and music accompanied by dance.

The students will experience how one can “talk story” through descriptive hand gestures and rhythmic movements of your feet and hips.  There will also be an opportunity for the students to participate in experiencing how to do Hula during the performance.

“Kaleo gave a Hawaiian Storytelling Performance to the students as part of our Diversity Day, and she did much more than that! She lead a child appropriate explanation on what the Hawaiian culture was all about. The students were engaged and could easily connect to her message. She then introduced the hula by reading part of a wonderful children’s book. Kaleo mesmerized the students when she demonstrated a traditional hula, and then taught them some of the basic movements. The students loved having the opportunity to move around and dance along with Kaleo. Overall, the performance was wonderful! I would highly recommend Kaleo and would love to have her come again.”

- Amanda Stonesifer, The Woodruff Elementary School

When watching Kaleo dance, you experience being totally involved with her as she is fully present in the world of the story she is sharing. She draws the audience in to open their hearts and be a part of that story with her. She is a wonderful example to dance students of all dance forms on how to be a storyteller through their dance. A true storyteller! Absolutely beautiful!.”
